TransPerfect - Translation Services Company

TransPerfect Translations, commonly known as "TransPerfect", is a privately held translation services company. The TransPerfect group of companies provides language and global business services in 170 languages. The company is headquartered at 3 Park Avenue in New York City, United States (U.S.) and 85 TransPerfect offices exist internationally.

TransPerfect has received recognition for its rapid growth as a privately held company in the U.S. and is one of the largest privately held companies in New York. The company's annual revenue for 2014 was over US$470 million.

History

TransPerfect founders Elizabeth Elting and Phil Shawe met in a New York University (NYU) dormitory room and founded the company in 1992. With no external financing, TransPerfect grew from a two-person dormitory-based operation into one of the 125 largest privately held companies in the New York area.

In July 2013, TransPerfect prevailed in a U.S. Federal patent trial against competitor MotionPoint. The trial began as a result of MotionPoint's claim that TransPerfect's use of its own translation technology patent was invalid. TransPerfect chose to take the matter to court to defend its intellectual property, and MotionPoint filed a counter-suit. After three weeks in court, a California jury voted in favor TransPerfect and awarded $1 million in damages.
